Nguyễn Baly is a non-binary sound-performance artist who lives and works in Berlin. In their work Nguyễn deals with postcolonial discourses, queer feminism as well as issues of the Vietnamese diaspora. Nguyễn studied at the Institute of Applied Theater Studies in Gießen. They are working in performing arts since 2010 in various collaborations such as with Damian Rebgetz (Elegy for Television, 2016), blend (singing whales and bodyless sirens, 2017) and with Tümay Kılınçel & Nuray Demir (WOW, 2017) amongst others.
Tara Transitory aka One Man Nation makes work which some consider art, some consider music and some consider trash. But clearly, it never quite fits into contemporary categories. She is trans, nomadic and is exploring the intersections of gender, noise and ritual through sound, performance and the collective trance. She fluctuates between Berlin (Germany) and Chiang Mai (Thailand) where she directs the performance space e x t a n t a t i o n.
Since 2017, they have been working together in artistic as well as philosophical spheres where they have been exploring ways to decolonize sound, synthesis and rhythm while concurrently trying to learn more about the many queer realities in the Vietnamese+Southeast Asian diaspora through the non-academic and empirical studies. During Lava Festival II duo will perform composition inspired by Kenneth Anger’s cult film “Lucifer Rising” (1972).
